This program will help empower people with knowledge and strategies to manage their diabetes through menu planning, carbohydrate counting, portion control, and label reading.
Target Audience(s):
Individuals with diabetes who have concerns about diabetes or with an interest in controlling blood sugar; a selected family member, friend, caregiver, or another support person
Objectives:
Participants will:
- Increase knowledge about healthy foods and specifically what foods turn to sugar,
- Learn how to cook healthy versions of familiar foods,
- Recognize the effect of fat and sodium on health,
- Use the diabetes plate method to prepare healthy meals, and
- Recognize the effects poor diabetes control can have on their health.
